The Lord of the Rings-Tolkien

Lord of the Rings Trilogy – a firm favourite

Seek for the Sword that was broken:
In Imladris it dwells;
There shall be counsels taken
Stronger than Morgul-Spells.
There shall be shown a token
That Doom is near at hand,
For Isildur’s Bane shall waken,
And the Halfing forth shall stand.

~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring, LOTR

Here is where my love affair with all things Elven, Ent, Dwarf, Hobbit, grand heroism, magic, and Middle Earth first began.

Recently a trip down memory lane was triggered when I began to reorganise my bookshelf. I pulled out my tatty copy of Tolkien’s masterpiece and flicked through its yellowed pages remembering high adventures not captured in Peter Jackson’s films. Shame. Maybe Jackson will weave his unique brand of magic and create films with what wasn’t included.

Bought in the late 70’s I spent many nights turning page after page of this book, enthralled by the suspense and the nail-biting terror, and ultimately, the triumphant destruction of the ring at Mount Doom.

Ah the memories. Now to find the time to revisit Middle Earth…
