Breaking the Chains of Anxiety – One Link at a Time

It’s ok to talk about anxiety these days isn’ it?  After all, it was the most common mental health issue reported by the Australia Bureau of Statistics in 2010.

My name is Peta Haines and I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist who supports clients to transform their anxiety.  My practice is based on modern, positive psychology and therapeutic techniques.  I have a lot of empathy for those who experience significant anxiety every day because I have experienced anxiety too.  I called it “living on the ceiling” because at times I couldn’t seem to get myself back down on the ground.  Over a period of a few years, I developed ways to understand my anxiety and transform it so I can now enjoy my confident, comfortable life.

Anxiety can be debilitating. It stops us from being who we secretly want to be and most of all, enjoying our life. We know that fear is the dominating feeling in an anxious state.  Fear is our way of protecting ourselves but sometimes it seems unjustified and self-sabotaging, doesn’t it?  On my journey, I focussed on dimming the dominating anxiety and began to relate to my fears and worries differently.   I was very excited to find that I could still feel safe without feeling immobilised.  With each link of understanding and transformation of the Anxiety Chain, I became more comfortable.

Two things you need to know about Anxiety:

1.    Anxiety and panic attacks can only exist with particular self-talk such as “I’ve got to get out of here” or “I can’t handle this”  or in my case, “something bad is about to happen.”  If you take away or change the self-talk, the anxiety can’t run its course and nothing happens.  It is absolutely true that you can talk yourself down from the ledge (so to speak).

2.     Anxiety may be created in our mind in response to something that happened once or that we fear happening.  Our minds are built to protect and serve us. When we learn a response, it’s strengthened through repetition and then our minds automatically go there even with a mild stimulus.  Reconnecting with that part that is desperately trying to protect us is vital to understanding your unique brand of anxiety.  Only then you can stop the self-sabotage and direct yourself more positively.

In my practice, many people come to see me for solutions such as weight loss, stop smoking, confidence or addiction issues.  Underneath all of these issues appears to be a common theme of self-protection.  For example, a client said to me “I smoke so that I have something to do and then I won’t feel awkward.  When I feel awkward, it makes me feel very anxious.”  Even though she wanted to give up smoking, we needed to address the awkward, anxious feeling first before her mind would allow her to give up.  The smoking masked her social anxiety.  Many people put addictions in place to change how they feel.

I’m a strong believer in working with what you have inside.  We have the answers when we are willing to ask and above all, we have the resources to go on to a better life.  Our anxiety is telling us something – it might be “I’m helping you so you don’t fail” or “I will protect you from …”  Embracing this strange relationship between fear and protection is the first step in getting better.  It wants the best for you, even though it may be going about it in an ineffective way.  When the anxiety is acknowledged for what it does, it tends to quieten down.  It also allows that confident, brave part of you to step up and protect you instead.  This part will help you to come down from the ceiling and re-engage with your life in a more comfortable way.

Living with anxiety and panic is exhausting and you can get through it.  Take control of your self- talk as the first step and at the very least, it will be different.  At best, you have re-engaged with life and can be and do those things you want to.   You can do this and things can change!

What is Energy Healing? As a matter of fact, what is this thing ‘energy’ I keep hearing about?

You’ve just had your first psychic reading and you hear the word energy used, and maybe you hear the word once, twice, three times, and then it’s said again.

Because life has been raining lemons someone recommends you have a Reiki session because the energy is healing, soothing, calming and oh so fantastic! You go and immediately want more of the same and even choose energy work as a new career choice.

The word energy is indeed tossed around on a regular basis in the world of complementary healing modalities, such as vibrational healing, energy healing, reiki, and all things new age. Energy of course has been around since the cosmic big bang, after all, apparently that’s what caused the whole universe to come about in the first place. If you’re new to the whole energy around you thing, the hopefully the following post will shed some light on it for you. Enjoy 🙂

Here’s the micro explanation of what vibrational energy healing is…

In the known Universe, everything vibrates, from low frequency to high and includes electrons, protons, neutrons, quarks, leptons, other ‘ons’ and so on.  Some of these particles form atoms and others are part of the universe, the cosmos and beyond, all of which move at incredible speeds.  Sub-atomic particles (smaller than atoms) millions of times smaller than the full stop at the end of sentences move so fast that technology is yet to get clear images of what they look like although science is working on this as I write.

In a broad sense we’re surrounded by electric and magnetic fields.  Back in 1905 Albert Einstein put forward the theory of Special Relativity, part of which outlines the behaviour of electric and magnetic fields – hence the term electromagnetic energy (this theory is currently be tested. You can read more about this theory here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity).

We might call this electromagnetic energy which surrounds our body, an aura (not to be confused with migraines) or energy field.

“Quantum physics has found that there is no empty space in the human cell, but it is a teeming, electric-magnetic field of possibility or potential”  – Dr. Deepak Chopra

Unless you have more than microscopic vision, we’re unable to physically see sub-atomic particles, atoms, or molecules neither do we experience or see the spirit world in the same way.  We experience the spiritual realm by using our heightened five senses, including our sixth sense.  The sixth sense being a combination of our awareness of the spiritual world, our intuition and psychic ability, which we all have to varying levels of expertise. The more you develop and use that muscle, the stronger it becomes.

There are five important things which one must have and do in order to fully develop their sixth sense:

  •     commitment,
  •     trust,
  •     an open mind,
  •     patience, and
  •     practice…and lots of it.

There are bucket loads of highly skilled spiritual or vibrational healers who help others clear and rebalance their energy fields by using their six senses.  Again, any person who is committed to their path of spiritual healing can learn with the guidance of a good, experienced teacher, dedicate themselves to effective and ongoing practice, use their discernment, and persevere.

Negative thought forms anyone?  Sometimes for whatever reason, we hold on to negative thought forms.  These thought forms are created over a period of time by our own thoughts, and also by allowing others to impact us emotionally (ie verbal abuse for one).  For example we might seeth with anger and aim it toward a perceived enemy; we have hatred in our heart; victim mentality; revenge is the name of the game; playing the blame game; and so it goes on. Negative thought forms can create blockages which build up toxins in our energy centres and we end up feeling low on energy, anxious, sad or similar.

So here we are with energy blockages in our bodies and in need of the services of an energy healer (vibrational healer, reiki master etc). We make the appointment, turn up, then what happens next? Simply put, during an energy healing session, universal energy is channelled through the therapist and into the energy centres of the client. For those clairvoyant, the vibrational energy might appear as brilliant blue/white light or, depending on the needs of the ‘receiver’, whatever healing colour or colours is most suitable for that healing session. Depending on modality, the healing session may be ‘hands on’ or ‘hands free’…

Originating from eastern philosophies, chakras or energy/spiritual centres as they’re also known, are spinning wheels or vortexes that are responsible for the condition of our mind, body and spirit. Some uses of energy healing are to clear negative thought forms; rebalance and facilitate harmony within; regain vitality; and to heal at the subtle or spiritual level.

“The last time I opened my chakra so I could feel my peace, I got thrown right out of the pub.” ~ Terri Guillemets

Many years ago a 13 year old boy was observing a vibrational healing session. After the session he was asked whether he ‘saw’ anything during the session. The following is his account of what he ‘saw’:

“I was curious to see what vibrational healing was all about so I just stared at her hands and saw a ball that glowed in the middle.  When she did vibrational healing the ball was dark orange on the outside. About 10 cm around the ball were little balls coming in from all directions gradually getting bigger as they came onto the ball. They went at a fast rate into the main ball.  It seemed to start at her palms. Then the ball went into the person’s head and when she was finished the ball slowly faded. Also, for some reason the ball made a low humming sound the whole time. I thought it was weird and unexplainable and drew a picture of it.”

This was drawn by a 13 year old and is an account of what he saw during an energy healing session

This has been a very short, very simple explanation of energy or vibrational healing and hope it has given you a little more understanding of what this means. Of course there is much more to it than this post and would take a long time to explain it fully – even then there would be more to learn.

So when life gives you lemons re-energise your soul and breathe in the energy of the Universe, deeply, slowly, and calmly – you’ll either end up with head spins or you’ll be feeling clearer and much more calm…maybe even be smiling again 🙂

Unfortunately, the other candidate was slightly more experienced…

When life gave me lemons…

Where do I start on my journey back to that land that was so far out of reach… well that was how I felt.

It was not that long ago when life was going along swimmingly… Business was good, life was good, just going through the motions of work and play. Then suddenly, like for so many others, unemployment struck! Made Redundant!

Initially I didn’t have an issue with this, after all, I had great experience and skills behind me, plus I’m a highly motivated person. This was just a blip on the radar.

Or so I thought.

Armed with a revised resume, Seek.com set as my home page, adding every other employment site to my favourites, I began my first day of being unemployed.

Days rolled into weeks, constant emails coming back, never good news, I learnt to hate the word Unsuccessful, but I had bills to pay, so the search had to continue.

Weeks become months. One thing about the unemployment line is that you’re competing against many others in exactly the same boat. I applied for so many jobs, and had so much time, I started to keep spreadsheets and categories of contacts, and positions applied for.

The demon that is with you plays terrible mind games. Why are there no phone calls for interviews? Is my resume poor? Am I too old? Am I even getting shortlisted, or just trashed? See when you don’t get any feed back, you just have to think about it…. And you think WAY to much about it!

Then finally some interviews – it’s either feast or famine! So now research the company, the role, create a script of possible questions so no erring or umming.  The interviews always went well, when they last 1 ½ hours you can always tell it went well. And your mouth is dry from nerves and non-stop talking. This is the one! Great company, great salary, great location! Second interview comes around, YOU NAIL IT AGAIN, and leave with your chest pumped out. Now on top of the world. The stress of no income and the anxiety is almost over, the cloud of darkness is clearing, You dare to relax and let your guard down, I guess because that’s all you have. Now to wait for THAT phone call.

It comes – and it’s not the news you wanted. This happened all too often. Came in second place. There are no trophies for that, no reward, no second chances.

Each day becomes darker and depression sets in on a large scale.

Many months later, armed with my contacts that I’d gathered, I decided for one last push. One last hurrah! I couldn’t take this any longer, It was a fight that was only up to me to win, jobs don’t just happen. As much as I wanted the secure income fairy to wave her magic wand, and as much as I needed her to, jobs don’t happen like that. This was it! The day, after many months of rejections, no replies, and “unfortunately the other candidate was slightly more experienced”, with all my strength and the little dignity I had left, I hit the phones and emails.

Each company where I was placed second had made the wrong choice! It was me that they needed, So I rang, and rang, and emailed like there was no tomorrow, because I felt like there was no tomorrow.

Within an  hour I received an email from a company that I was really keen to be part of, a small-medium sized business with growth opportunities. I had been invited to meet at a café in Melbourne to discuss a potential position the next day. “LOCK IT IN EDDIE,” I said.

That next morning, I suited up, treated our meeting as another interview, and we talked for about an hour.

To this day I am still with the company in a senior position.

On 29th October 1941 at Harrow School, Winston Churchill famously said, “Never Give In, Never, Never, Never.”

In my case, this is so true 🙂

The Akashic Records in a Nutshell

When life gave me lemons I called them creative blocks…

I first heard the term Akashic Records during my first year of parapsychology studies. To be honest, it took me awhile to get my head around this esoteric concept but eventually the proverbial light bulb came on and I was illuminated. Most of you reading this will probably already know of and about these records – you can probably add more to this post but for those of you who have a zero to vague idea, I’ve written the following in laymen’s terms and hope I can in some small way illuminate you also.

So here goes…

Akasha, the Sanskrit term meaning ‘aether or ether, sky or space’, was in ancient and medieval philosophy thought to be the fifth element (not to be confused with the science fiction movie of the same name) or quintessence, latent in all things and the constituent matter of the heavenly bodies, fire, water, earth and air. In other words ether was(is) the glue that held the universe together and which these days some might say, is the Higgs Boson’s God Particle – a very big deal in the world of science (and in yours truly).

Symbol 54:3

Sourced from Symbols.com, the Online Encyclopedia of Western Signs and Ideograms

Incidentally for those of you who aren’t familiar with the God Particle, it was discovered last year deep in the ground on the outskirts of Geneva Switzerland, through the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The LHC is a massive science instrument in the shape of a ring buried 100m below ground and is 27km in length – an amazing engineering feat. What the LHC does is launch sub-atomic particles in opposite directions the particles accelerate and then collide – a bit like watching the big boom in action. I believe the scientists and VIPs had ring side seats to watch the big boom. The outcome could have been catastrophic and rained glowing lemons 😉

Google image: Higgs Boson God Particle

There is also a theory that dark matter, which is 84% of the total mass of the universe, is ether. Dark matter is a strange thing, we know it’s there however we can’t see it as it doesn’t emit or absorb light or other electromagnetic radiation. Yes, the matter is dark, very dark…

Over the years there have been many studies trying to prove the existence of ether, one of the most well-known was the Michelson-Morley experiment. This study was conducted in 1887 by Albert Michelson (19 December 1852 – 9 May 1931) an American physicist, and Edward Morley (29 January 1838 – 24 February 1923) an American scientist, to finally prove its existence. The experiment’s negative result (although not disproved) was the beginning of Albert Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity in 1905 and the rest as they say, is history.

And so the search for scientific evidence continues into finding the elusive ether, and when the guys and gals in the white coats finally make that discovery I’ll be saying “What took ya so long?”

Without going into any more physics than I have to (it makes my brain hurt) and to keep it simple, the Akashic Records are “etheric records,” and contain the entire history and experience of humans. These records are eternal, from the beginning of time to the end of days and each one of us has a record of us stored there. Other terms they’re known by though not limited to, are the following:

ƒThe Hall of Records, a phrase first coined by Edgar Cayce (18 March 1877 – 3 January 1945) an American psychic. The Hall of Records is a mythical library buried beneath the Great Sphinx of Giza located in Egypt and whilst Cayce may have called this library the Hall of Records first, the legend of cavities situated beneath the Great Sphinx goes back to the time of Pliny the Elder (23 AD – 25 August 79 AD), a Roman author and philosopher.

The Akashic Hall of Records

Hall of Knowledge (not to be confused with the planned construction of the Hall of Records at Mt Rushmore, Pennington County, South Dakota USA)

Library of Records

Library of the Soul

Hall of Awareness

The Universal Mind is omnipresent and is where one has access to all known and unknown knowledge.

ƒThe Mind of God. This quotation comes from Stephen Hawking; “If we do discover a theory of everything…it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason—for then we would truly know the mind of God.” (italics added)

Soul Records

The Book of Life (Christianity and Judaism)

For the more technically minded, just imagine the mother of all computers, The SuperCosmicComputer with a never-ending memory bank storing endless chips of data, which are the records of humanity through all time.

We can access these places by accessing the zone – that state of being where we are fully focussed and participating in the now through mindfulness and meditative practises; writing with an open and receptive mind; through the creation and inspiration of any form of artwork; using our intuition (incidentally, to receive intuitive insights clearly it works best whilst in the zone of The Quiet Mind); by taking a trip to the Life between Lives with the help of an experienced hypnotherapist working in that particular field; and through psychic abilities. The zone is a much better place to be than in a downpour of lemons from heaven 😉

So why would we access these records you might ask? Because etheric records contain all things past, present and future, during meditative states, and with pre-framed intention, we can bring through new creative ideas, new and improved personal strategies to help us live more fulfilling lives, and to step into peace and unconditional love. Accessing these records also helps us move through any creative block caused by lemon rain; create new and successful work projects; start (and complete) writing that new book everyone’s been waiting for – or write because you want to; design new and interesting workshops, come up with a new and unique field of study, or possibly discover a new calling or vocation.

Tapping into these records and receiving flashes of insight and creative brilliance comes from the Akasha and we could call it divine inspiration.  We all know there have been many throughout our history who have inspired us and who have influenced the peoples of this world from spiritual leaders, artisans, philosophers, explorers, inventors, to entertainers, mums and dads, children, friends, animals, and many others who will continue to do so until the end of time.

I shall leave you with author Julia Cameron’s Basic Principles (http://juliacameronlive.com/) from her book The Artist’s Way, as a little more food for thought:

“Basic Principles of the Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron:

1. Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy: pure creative energy.

2. There is an underlying, in-dwelling creative force infusing all of life — including ourselves.

3. When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the creator’s creativity within us and our lives.

4. We are, ourselves, creations. And we, in turn, are meant to continue creativity by being creative ourselves.

5. Creativity is God’s gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.

6. The refusal to be creative is self-will and is counter to our true nature.

7. When we open ourselves to exploring our creativity, we open ourselves to God: good orderly direction.

8. As we open our creative channel to the creator, many gentle but powerful changes are to be expected.

9. It is safe to open ourselves up to greater and greater creativity.

10. Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source. As we move toward our dreams, we move toward our divinity.”

Have fun in the Library  – it’s an illuminating experience 🙂

A Day in the Life of a Military Wife

My name is Kristen, and I am the proud mother of five wonderful children. With a loving family, supportive friends, and happy, healthy children…what more could I ask for?

Originally from Sydney, NSW, I have been moving north, east, west, and south following the Military.  My husband and I met a three short years ago, bringing with us a child each from previous relationships.  Within our first year of marriage we had an additional three boys (this includes a set of non identical twins).

I once worked as a Business Analyst with Community Services, prior to that I worked for the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Airforce – did I mention I am also a war veteran? Since 2012 I have been a stay-at-home mum, discovering many new sides of myself such as I CANNOT BAKE!  My life at the moment revolves around my children, which is easier said than done.

Being a military mum has included making room for hubby’s work commitments with the downside him having to go away.

When life gave me lemons…

“Ahhh…the final trip for while,” I thought with a false sense of security.  Three nights later hells bells, he tells me he is going away for a month – next week!

Cool.  I can do this! No worries…. (I secretly plan what I can buy without him knowing, buy that little kitten I walk past at the shops every other day).

Love you! Bye Hunny, have a great trip.

I go back to bed, wake up and change three nappies, make three bottles, change three outfits, and yell at my 11 year old to wake up and get himself ready for school.  Then I go to the toilet. While the kettle boils.

Eeeech.  I am a mess.  Note to self – get rid of makeup before bed.  Just because husband is away, no need to not take care of yourself.

I go out to make my first coffee, and am bombarded with pairs of shoes.  Not just one pair but four pairs.  Another note to self – hide all shoes from any child unless they can put them on themselves.

Coffee? Yes… Drink coffee, make son lunch, remind him to make the bed, remind him to brush his teeth.  Quick we are late.  Get out of the house, put baby in sling, carefully put twins in pram…buckle up boys! Then get nagging dog, who is bouncing around the front yard tearing up what was apparently, grass.

Close gate…ahhhhhh. Rest…but then it’s the dog pulling me down hills while I slide in my flip flops (I have a massive blister from attempting to run in my joggers on my treadmill out the back, so flip flops it is).

Get home. Unpack. Take shoes off. Make morning tea for one, two, three mouths. Clean up.  Husband messages me.

“Whatchya doin’ hunny?”   I don’t reply…
“Tap- tap- tap…whatcha doin?”
I reply “not doing much..you?”

The day goes on.  I was not doing much but why does it seem like so much?

I did plan on sending some mail today, write a few emails, do a bit of lazy shopping, but heck, I will wait until tomorrow. I will be more organised tomorrow and get out earlier.

This is just another day in the life of Kristen – it just goes on until bed time. By late afternoon I’m helping with homework which baffles me most of the time, then it’s my turn for a shower, clean clothes and some good old fashioned…Facebook time! (Shhh I’m addicted to Facebook and Candy Crush…don’t judge me!).

So…my lemon pie I thought it would be when my husband goes away…turns out to be lots of dreamy lemon meringues.

Ms Luna and her Mysterious Moods

At night, as the celestial sky sparkles with stars and Luna casts her eerie shadows, a lone wolf lifts his head and challenges her with a mournful howl.

Okay back to the present, life is raining lemons on the full moon and moods are moodier than usual.

It’s been said that moods are determined by moon phases and on a full moon, people and animals go a little loco. Or do they? Let’s first start with a little background summary on the moon.

Mystery has surrounded the moon since caveman first laid eyes on her one clear and starry night. If it wasn’t for her moonlight, then used as an ancient celestial torch, prowling sabre tooth tigers and other, large fanged animals, caveman would have become extinct rather quickly and we probably wouldn’t have been blessed with those wonderful David Attenborough documentaries.

The moon takes its name from the word lunar taken from the latin word luna, and coming back to the beginning, meaning ‘moon‘. Lunacy is also derived from lunar and was thought to have first been tossed around by philosophers such as Aristotle and Pliny the Elder who believed the full moon made people a little crazy. This may have been due to the fact that it was bright during a full moon and more people were out and about. Imagine them in the modern world with lights on every night.
